PCD Caps Off 100 Years of Excellence with Centennial Weekend of Celebrations
Providence Country Day School closed out the celebration of its 100th birthday with a weekend full of merriment and festivities, as the school remembered its history, celebrated present successes, and looked forward to a bright future. The Centennial weekend culminated 18 months of planning and celebrations, including Zoom toasts, student assemblies, history projects, and alumni gatherings.
Centennial weekend kicked off on Friday, June 21, with the inaugural Knights of Distinction induction ceremony, honoring individuals who have made significant contributions to our community. The inductees included several notable alumni of the school, such as businessman Terry Murray ‘58, politician Lincoln Chaffee ‘71, astrophysicist Alanna Meredith Hughes ‘01, entrepreneur Aaron Samuels ‘07, and philanthropist golfer Billy Andrade ‘82.
This was followed on Saturday, June 22, with the Centennial Gala at the RI Convention Center - an amazing celebration of our 100-year legacy attended by over 450 people. The 1920s themed evening—in honor of the school’s founding year of 1923—featured toasts from many members of the PCD community, as well as musical performances by both current and former PCD faculty.
Centennial Weekend concluded on Sunday, June 23, on the PCD campus with a Faculty Breakfast for all current and former school community members for both PCD and Henry Barnard School, a Family Field Day as well as Tom Ossman’s Celebration of Life, which brought our community together in reflection, celebration, and fellowship.
Thank you to the more than 500 people who attended any one of the events, and thank you to the members of our Centennial planning committee. The committee consisted of a wide variety of members of our community, including alumni, board members, and staff.
The weekend will be remembered long into PCD's future as a highlight for our school community, and was made possible through the support and hard work of so many!
